We have just completed our fourth week in Dental Hygiene School and the month has really seemed to fly by! As the new Dental Hygiene Students we are feeling very nervous and excited about the semester and we are looking forward to the next two years. It has been my great honor and pleasure to get to know the other Junior students, staff, and returning students this year. The ten new students this year are (by first name only) Desiree, Mallory, Janet, Miranda, Whitney, Dora, Rhonda, Brandy, Clerissa, and Tana.
After the first week had gone by, I asked the other students what their feelings were, and here are a few of their replies:
Desiree: “My first week of school was full of a variety of emotions with adapting to new teaching styles, studying for long hours, and trying to keep track of all the new due dates for assignments and quizzes. I have enjoyed my interactions with my new classmates and I was happy to hear that I wasn’t alone in my feelings.”
Miranda: “My first week was great! I already feel like we work as a group really well and get along with each other. I am getting the hang of the homework load and am ready to work hard to stay on track!!”
Mallory: “Our first week was very eventful and busy! We got to meet each other for the first time, work on team building with the seniors and faculty at the challenge course, and dive right into our course work. It looks to be a very busy and demanding next two years, but also very worthwhile, and I am excited for the journey.”
Rhonda: “My feelings about getting into the program was pure excitement. All summer I couldn't wait for school to start, then as the school year was getting closer to start I was really nervous. I was very anxious to meet the other girls in the program and my instructors. So with that background the best word to describe my first week is relief. All of the girls are great and the instructors are amazing. There is tons of work that needs to be done, but I expected that. So all and all first week of my dental hygiene schooling is over and I am ready for more.”
As for myself (Tana), I had this to say about the first week of school: “The first week of Hygiene school was fun and challenging. There was a lot of reading and studying and I got to meet some amazing girls. The challenge for me has been trying to figure out the teaching styles and study methods, along with managing my time. It seems like every time I think I have it all figured out, they throw in another curve ball! Things have definitely changed from what I am used to and I am still trying to make adjustments.”
So, here is to an amazing, and challenging, next two years! Good luck!
